Ships contain enclosed spaces such as tanks, holds and storage compartments where hazardous gases may accumulate. Gas risks may also arise during painting, maintenance or after a fire. In such conditions, portable gas detectors must be used to verify oxygen levels and identify flammable or toxic gases before entry and during work.
